What is the Balloon Solar Eclipse Project?
Balloon Project
As part of an initiative by the Western New Brunswick Regional Service Commission to make the region a destination for the eclipse, a unique and exciting project is underway to develop a balloon-borne solar telescope that will be launched by means of an unmanned high-altitude balloon on April 8, 2024.

David Hunter, the leader of the Balloon Project stated that: “Bell’s assistance in relaying images from the balloon payload to numerous locations in the Western Valley of New Brunswick is fundamental to the success of the project”.
Tod Madden, a director supporting on the project added: “Bell is thrilled to be supporting the Balloon Project with our leading network technology. The volunteer team behind this project has inspired all of us with their innovative ideas and incredible passion. We look forward to working with them as we bring this project to life.”
Total eclipses are a rare event. The last one in central New Brunswick was in the year 932.
The goal of the project is to live stream images of the total eclipse. No non-governmental, volunteer group has ever done this before.
Things to Know About the Eclipse in Southern Victoria
To view the eclipse outside with the naked eye, the official view site is TBD.
To view the eclipse from inside being live streamed from a balloon, the location is the River Valley Civic Centre, 11 School St, Perth-Andover, NB.
